What has the NLB Show achieved so far: 1. Increase visibility of And Tango Makes Three etc (frankly, I didnt even know they carried the books in the first place) which will direct parents truly committed to equal rights to Youtube, where a narrated version is freely available. 2. Placate the anti-gay forces, still fuming at their poor public standing after Pink Dot. While still showing them up as bigots and bullies. 3. Continue the public conversation about different kinds of Singaporean families, as brave writers like Ovidia Yu, Gwee Li Sui and Ng Yi-Sheng engage with their actions and voices. 4. Save the government from appearing to side LGBTs before the election. What it will not stop, is the continued downward slide in the libraries as the primary source of knowledge and information. Whens the last time anyone wanted information and not say, Lets Google! Im not downplaying the danger of allowing public institutions and facilities to be dominated by the opinions of individual groups. We still must keep standing up and speaking out. Im just saying, we can continue to do it with the hope for a brighter future, instead of letting it get us down.
