What if its time to stop demonizing foods? 20 years ago, coconut oil was Evil Incarnate and we were taught to fear its fattiness. Today its touted as a helpmeet for everything from lowering cholesterol to helping save the brain from Alzheimers. Egg yolks became so reviled for raising cholesterol that stores carry Eggbeaters so that we dont have to bring the evil yellow centres into our homes... and yet recent research points to the fact that one egg yolk a day provides enough Vitamin D to keep you healthy in a zillion different ways...and the very public Dr. Oz Show has outright asked people to eat the egg yolks to get Vit. D and calcium (not to mention the folic acid!). There are dozens - hundreds! - of examples of this, as science catches up and continues to explore. So what if, rather than focussing on what is currently being deemed as bad or dangerous, we allow ourselves to gravitate towards what feels good? What if we stop fearing food and start loving it again? What if the burst of flavour of crispy sage leaves sautéed next to our dinner isnt a sinful indulgence but a burst of celebration to wake up our taste buds and allow us to digest more completely? Religions, poets, and activists have been encouraging us to love our neighbours for centuries...what if we started loving our food as well?
