What is Bronchitis? This is the inflammation of the bronchial tubes lining. These tubes carry air from and to the lungs. Bronchitis can either be chronic or acute. Acute bronchitis is a fairly common condition which often expands from the common cold or some other respiratory illness. Bronchitis which is chronic is a much more serious problem, is an irritation which is constant or a constant inflammation of the lining of the bronchial tubes most often caused by smoking. Bronchitis which is acute normally gets better within several days with no lasting problems, although an individual can continue to have a cough for quite sometime. But, if an individual has repeated attacks of bronchitis, it actually could be chronic bronchitis which does require medical health attention. Bronchitis which is chronic is one of the circumstances incorporated in “chronic obstructive pulmonary disease” also known as COPD. The treatment for bronchitis concentrates on alleviating the symptoms and reducing any problems breathing. For either chronic or acute bronchitis, symptoms and signs can include: Creation of mucus or sputum, clear or yellowish-gray or white or green in color Cough Problems breathing, made even worse with mild exertion Fatigue Wheezing Slight chills and fever Discomfort of the chest If an individual has acute bronchitis, he or she can have a troublesome cough which can linger for quite a few weeks once the bronchitis is resolved. But, symptoms of bronchitis can be misleading. A person with bronchitis does not always have sputum and children will often swallow any material which is coughed-up, so parents may not necessary know there is an infection which is secondary. An individual can develop chronic bronchitis without developing acute bronchitis first. Also many smokers need to clear their throats each morning upon getting up, which, when it continues for more then 3 months, can be bronchitis which is chronic.
