What is Shiatsu and how can it benefit your health! Shiatsu is a form of therapeutic bodywork from Japan based on 5000-year-old principles of Traditional Chinese Medicine. Shiatsu is a technique following the lines of your meridians using, acupressure, kneading and tapping, vibrating and stretching. This form of bodywork allows the clients to get in touch with their own healing abilities. It is a balance – an interactive relationship between practitioner and client. Shiatsu helps treat a wide range of internal, musculoskeletal, and emotional conditions such as headaches, PMS, digestive disorders, fatigue, insomnia, fibromyalgia, anxiety, low back, neck and joint pain. This form of treatment calms the overactive sympathetic nervous system, improving circulation and relieving stress. The effect may be stimulating and invigorating or calming and sedative, depending on the goal of the session. Shiatsu is based on traditional Chinese medicine, where illness is thought to result from imbalances/blockages in the natural flow of energy through the body.
