What is a true friend? In my own experience and modest - TopicsExpress

What is a true friend? In my own experience and modest understanding of that experience, a true friend who is worth living for, is a friend, who must be able to call on my actions if they are hurtful or thoughtless. They must be able to point toward my sense of self-responsibility and not support me blindly. My true friend must always stand up for the truth, and not stand up for my irrationality out of a sense of obligation in the name of "friendship". A true friend to me is one, who can show me my error, without fearing the guilt-trip I might burden him/her with for not standing by "me" regardless. For you see, by standing up for the truth and not condoning my irrational, illogical behavior, does not mean he/she does not stand by me. On the contrary, he/she, does, more than ever, because they are fearless in their love for me, unconditional in their trust in me, and have confidence in my ability to see reason and come into awareness and insight through right action and thought, eventually. And while in this process, they hold the space instead of turning away from me. Such is a true friend I can personally trust. Relationships are all about helping each other grow, not keep each other stagnated in blind faith without question. Such is a friend, worth living for and learning from, in turn being a true friend myself. Just sharing for the joy of sharing. Please share your thoughts too as and when guided. :-)
