What is happening to our Governmental Appointees?? Few months ago, the Liberian leader, H.E. Madam Ellen Johnson Sirleaf appointed some brilliant young men and women to serve as Assistant Superintendents for Fiscal Affairs in the 15 counties of Liberia. Interestingly, most of the appointees are graduates of the famous , robust and well supported Financial Management Program which is supported by key international partners including the World Bank and SIDA. I earlier commended the President for the timely appointment of those guys especially when there is a need to have an Assistant Superintendent for Fiscal Affairs in a county so as to properly manage the county development fund since there has not been real accountability over the years perhaps due to the absence of a sound financier. It has been almost 3 months now, the Liberian leader has not submitted the names of these individuals to the Liberian Senate for confirmation and its worrying me Madam President. The creation of these positions were in the right direction to fight corruption in your government and it’s about time that you give the appointees the opportunity to deliver. My understanding is that the Ministry of Internal Affairs is playing serious political game with those appointees where the President is been misled on grounds that the government do not have money to maintain these appointees should they be confirmed. Madam President, do not listen to them and please send the names of those nominees for confirmation because we need total accountability in the counties and to have an Assistant Superintendent for Fiscal Affair in a county is just a very good attitude to fight corruption.
