What is most distressing about this bit of sophistry is that it doesnt matter if what the senator is saying is true or not because nothing inside of him keeps him from putting this ridiculous boast out for general consumption. Setting aside the clear contempt he has for the person who has worked mightily for six years to set the ship of state aright, the senators statement shows, at least to me, what little regard he has for the public -- both those who will lap up his remark and those who will be repelled by it.
