“What is the Backpack Program?” It is a program that provides easy to prepare food for chronically hungry children for weekends while they are away from school. The program works directly with school districts to identify children who are in need of food and rely on school meal programs to eat. These children are often hungry from the time they leave school on Friday until they return to school on Monday. Each week, the Backpack Program provides supper for Friday, and breakfast, lunch and supper for Saturday and Sunday, with additional nutritious snacks. In order to raise money to support the Monett Area Schools’ Backpack Program, the EFCO Ambassadors Activity Committee will be hosting a Garage Sale on Saturday, June 21, 2014 from 7:00AM to 2:00PM at the EFCO South Parking Lot. All proceeds from this event will be used to help children in the Monett School District who currently participate in the Backpack Program. “How I can help?” Donate! Any gently worn clothing or other items that are in good shape may be donated to sell the day of the garage sale. Please bring these items to the following individuals; Norma Mendez in the HR Department at the Main Plant, Kara Severs at EFCO South, and Darlene Litchfield at the Downtown Plant. Cash donations are also welcome. Donations can be given to Norma, Kara, or Darlene. Be a volunteer- We are in need of volunteers to help with setting up and working during the garage sale. Please contact Norma Mendez if you’re able to help. There will be a refreshment stand, a face painting booth for the children and many other fun activities to help raise money for this important cause.
