What is the best way for Kashmiri diaspora to contribute to the aid efforts? Please note that the online campaigns to raise funds in overseas locations will not be fruitful enough. While there are many reasons, but the principal reason is of the legality. India has strict laws regarding foreign aid (mha1.nic.in/pdfs/ForeigD-ForeigD-FCRA_FAQs.pdf). According to this act only UN aid agencies are allowed to bring relief funds to India. As one of my friends remarked, perhaps the best option for most of us would be route funds to our families and dear ones and ask them to hand these over to the local aid committee e.g., Masjid Committees, Mohalla Committees etc. Let us ensure (as much as possible) that the relief efforts are successful and reach the needy.
