What is the best way to gauge overall flexibility? I would suggest performing an overhead squat, holding a broomstick or similar object overhead, with hands at twice shoulder width and slightly behind your head. Optimal flexibility would allow you to perform this effortlessly. If you move out of alignment, the bar moves forward, your knees bow in, or your feet turn out. Then you understand that you have muscle imbalances to address. Do not force any of these movements, only squat and reach as far as is comfortable. Forcing movements, causes injury.
