What is your thought on the story.... Governor of Rivers State, Chief Rotimi Amaechi, yesterday appeared before the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) in Abuja to defend the petition he wrote against the state commissioner of police, Mr. Joseph Mbu. The governor said the police were being used to undermine the state government. He accused some highly placed individuals and natives of the state of giving orders to the state commissioners. NHRC executive secretary, Prof. Bem Angwe, said that anybody summoned, who fails to appear to defend himself, would be arrested. The governor, who came with some of his aides, appeared before the commission at 10am. He was said to have been asked to provide evidence on all the allegations he made in the petition by the commission at a closed-door session. Before going into the secret session with officials of the commission led by Angwe, Amaechi expressed surprise at a newspaper publication which stated that he had been indicted by the commission, even when he had not appeared before it.
