What level of luxury does a leader really need? The Ukraine Presidents private residence is private no longer. Thousands of citizens have flocked to Victor Yanukovychs country estate to marvel at his private zoo, the replica galleon on an artificial lake and the personalised golf clubs; Ukrainian Disneyland wrote one mocking visitor. Im James Menendez, and on Newshour we want to know: what level of luxury is appropriate for a leaders residence? Take the big concerns about corruption in places like Angola or Equatorial Guinea - near the bottom of the UN development index but where the Presidents son is accused of buying a Malibu mansion and a private jet. And remember Colonel Gaddafis compound full of oversize gold furniture? Easy to mock, maybe. But does the British Prime Minister really need the use of a lavish state residence full of art and antiques not open to the public?
