What limits our hips from going further? After many years of practice, when all the hip muscle groups are stretched to almost their maximal healthy limits, our range of motion of hip will be only limited by the individual difference of skeletal bone structure, say the restriction in further external rotation of hip in Baddha Konasana among people having an inborn forward facing acetabulum. In contrast, from my personal observation most of the people are still far away from this physical destiny, many of us are struggling with the muscle restriction mainly indeed. Among all the compartments of hip joint, the importance of Gluteus Medius and Minimus are highly underestimated. If you take a look in their location, you wont surprise they indeed have a large influence in the range of motion in multiple dimensions, including abduction, internal and external rotation, flexion and extension of the hip. The comparatively smaller in size and deeply seating location allows them to resist the pull effectively in many directions, which could be highly neglected as what we can visualized are usually something more superficial: the Gluteus Maximus and the IT Band. Trigger Point Myofascial Release method is highly effective in releasing tension of Gluteus Medius and Minimus, in combination with outer hip and gluteal stretches. So before the surrender, process of dont give up may be much longer than you expected. Medic Yoga Therapeutic and Anatomy Workshop with Bryan Lau: eventbrite.hk/o/medic-yoga-7464305933
