What method would you guys use to organize a large set of data? - TopicsExpress

What method would you guys use to organize a large set of data? That is scalable, easy to search, organize, and transport, while also working on multiple platforms? Type of Data: Mostly very large chunks of text. Why: I have a very large collection of PDF Books ~350, that span a wide variety of Information Technology topics. Mostly focused on system administration and security (both defensive and offensive). Many with redundant information, Ive decided to build myself a centralized knowledge database that is easy to search and navigate. That can easily have new data added. My end vision is to have a detailed encyclopedia of specific topics, that are organized and linked together. With data from reputable/validated sources perhaps eventually including bibliographies. I could simply index the PDFs to search them and pull specific Keywords from them. But that would be laborious if done repeatedly. I have no intention of hosting this online (Because I doubt many people would be interested in helping me build this monster), but I would like it to be in a format that is relatively easy to transport and share. So far what I see as the best option is a personal wiki like Tiddlywiki. Ive also thought of doing word/powerpoint but those files get pretty large pretty fast, and it seems like a pretty crowded/messy way of doing it. Do you guys have any ideas?
