What price Honor....................... Honor and Respect. You can not hold it, but you can see it. You can not touch it, but you can feel it. Sometimes it is hard to even define, which probably explains why there are so many who just dont get it. You can not buy it, but ya have to pay for it............ We, or I should say Dist 4, Abate found that out again this year. A bit of history/information to bring everyone up to speed. Somewhere along the path of Iowa Thunder, Dist 4, assumed the role of securing the parade permit for Iowa Thunder, along with that they assumed the liability insurance issue. In recent years, there have arisens additional fees connected to the event. The cost to the city for the police officers who provide the escort and intersection control. This year the total came to over $1,500.00. Thats a lot of jange for an organization that stepped up to help with an event that I organized. It is not fair to them to absorb the cost. So yesterday afternoon we had a meeting to discuss our options. The one undisputeable solution would be to roll it up..........I mean after all, we have had 25 years for what was intended to be a one time salute to our veterans. Uh, yeah, dist 4 was not impressed with my suggestion we do that. They countered with a request that we Iowa Thunder allow them to do some fund raising projects. So the long and the short of it is,,,,,,,it is up to us, or up to those who choose to ride whether the parade segment of Iowa Thunder remains intact. There will always be an Honor ceremony at the wall, its our monument and there is no fee to be there. I started the ball rolling with a personal donation yesterday. There will be donation cans at Southridge and we will pass the hat or have the cans at the ceremony. They are going to resurrect the ride pins we did in the early years on a limited basis. Shanna has discussed doing some DVDs of the videos from 2013 and 2014. Anyone interested in that let us know so we have an idea how many to make. We are open to suggestions, short of armed robbery. I know what your thinking, we should not have to pay to show our True Colors, there should not be a cost for Honor and Respect, but there is so its up to us. The price of Honor when held to the light of the cost of Freedom,,,,,,hell yeah, Im in. come along take a ride with me
