What the feck are they teaching the police in Scuffer School nowadays? Have they completely forgotten the past and the security issues this country used to be plagued with? Or have they just given up on common sense in general? Outside Tescos tonight in the car park was an abandoned and very suspicious looking old fashioned suitcase, just sitting there looking for all the world like an IED... So I reported it to the Tescos manager, who thanked me and immediately went to work on forgetting all about it... So a while later when we went back to the cashpoint and it was still there, Amanda rang 101 and reported it to Plod... Give them their due, they came out within minutes... But what they sent was two baby officers who pulled up beside it in a car, got out, kicked it to see if it went bang, then when it failed to go off, they opened it up to take a look and see if there was a bomb inside... Then they went into the store and bought snacks for their night shift... What ever happened to the Three Cs ??? Clear, Cordon and Control? They should have cleared the area, set up a cordon at a safe distance, and controlled access to the cordon until the EOD guys arrived and declared it safe... Okay, so it turned out to be just an empty suitcase, but given the history in this country, it could have just as easily been something a lot more bangy... If it had been, their downright irresponsible actions could have cost them their lives, as well as the lives of innocent people in and around the Tescos store... Bloody PSNI amateurs... This wouldnt have happened if it was the RUC... They may have had their faults, but they knew how to handle these situations safely without risking innocent lives... I actually feel incensed to the point where I feel like writing a strongly worded letter to whoevers in charge of the police in the area... As it is, I feel I need to tag PSNI Newtownabbey & Carrickfergus so at least someone there knows how outraged I am at the way this was handled... Im an ex-military man, and the downright dangerous way in which this was handled has quite literally terrified me...
