What the science of search management taught me about yard - TopicsExpress

What the science of search management taught me about yard maintenance. When faced with a yard full of unraked, soggy, rotting leaves from last autumn, a seemingly insurmountable problem: 1. Segment the work area in manageable sizes. 2. Do not keep clawing away at the worst leaves that are difficult to clear (the ones that will cause bald spots in the lawn later this year). It is labor and resource intensive (Type III search). 3. Instead, rake lightly with multiple quick efforts, from different angles (Type II search). 4. Hit the easiest areas first (Type I search) 5. Assume you can not cover the entire yard at once and prepare early for repeated efforts (ICS planning cycle for the next ops period).
