What worries me about the Tea Party are their repeated statements - TopicsExpress

What worries me about the Tea Party are their repeated statements that they want to, in a manner of speaking, suppress the Democratic Party. They want to make sure that Democrats do not take office and that those who do take office are rendered ineffectual. They seem, based on the rhetoric of certain high-profile party members, to be making a play for a de facto single-party system. Additionally, they promote a militarized warrior culture (mind, if youre going to have a warrior culture, imbuing it with military discipline is the only civic-minded thing to do, otherwise you get 1930s Chicago), fetishize the founding fathers (who were smart men, but not the last smart men) and a purely theoretical set of traditional values. The Tea Party would rather protect tradition than uphold majority rule, meaning that the nation and the ideals associated with it are greater than the changing values of an ethnically, technologically and economically dynamic populace. This makes them strongly nationalistic. So, the Tea Party is a nationalistic, militarized group which is aiming for single-party status. That is really close to fascism and thats what worries me. Feel free to comment civilly, with academically defensible syntax and the absolute minimum of emotion you can muster. Otherwise, feel very excluded.
