What would be the effect of paying a McDonalds worker $15 an hour? Could the restaurants absorb it? Would the cost of a meal go up? Would the quality of work increase? Would it be easier or harder to become a new-hire? Or would the restaurant hang on to trained people longer? Would it lead to less jobs for entry-level workers, or have no effect? Would it reduce the incentive for young employees to look for something better, more fulfilling, or have no effect? Instead of reporters taking a class struggle angle to this story, with a fast-food employees as the new proletariat, why dont they explore what the effect of dropping a larger wages rock into the market pond and reporting on the economic ripples?
