Whats Smuckers hiding in that jam jar? Unless you speak out now, - TopicsExpress

Whats Smuckers hiding in that jam jar? Unless you speak out now, we might never know. Smuckers and other big food companies are fighting simple rules requiring their products to carry a label if they contain genetically modified organisms(GMOs). Theyre betting the farm on political attack ads to stop you, and millions of other consumers, from finding out whats in your food. Smuckers and their friends like Monsanto spent over $22 million on misleading TV ads in Washington State alone -- all to defeat a GMO labeling initiative.1 Thats not just bad for Washington consumers -- its dangerous for the planet. Most GMOs are untested for their impact on our planet -- making all of nature part of a giant science experiment that has already had consequences for the health of many species. Without labels, we could all be unwittingly supporting this damage. Over 90 percent of Americans support the right to know whats in their food. Oregon, Vermont, Illinois, Florida, New York and other states are considering GMO labeling laws right now.2 But they wont stand a chance with Smuckers and other big food companies spending zillions on TV ads to confuse the public and keeping us all in the dark about what GMOs are doing to the planet, and which foods theyre in. Sign this petition to Smuckers CEO Richard Smucker so that he knows opposing GMO labeling laws is bad for business. Sign now and well deliver all the petions to Richard Smuckers pastoral factory in Orville, OH. If we can get enough support, we can convince Smuckers and dozens of other companies like Campbell’s Soup and Hershey’s to stop giving money to political ads that oppose GMO labeling. Other big companies are already backing away from GMOs. Mars Inc, Dole, and Kraft spent millions of dollars opposing California’s GMO Labeling Proposition in 2012. After a public backlash, they pledged to stay out of future GMO labeling initiatives and kept their promise in Washington this month.3 Smuckers, with their funny name, wholesome reputation and just-fruit advertising campaign is a sweet target to go after next. Lets get Smuckers and other companies to pledge to stay out of GMO labeling so that Oregon, Vermont, Illinois and New York have a better chance.
