Whats hot on Facebook these days is a picture of two men sitting on ladies seat in a metro, and two women standing next to them, one of them with a baby. The caption for the picture reads: Circulate this picture so much that it reaches the guys who are sitting and they get ashamed of their deeds. the photo has invited a range of gaalis against the two men. I say: 1. What if the woman with the baby was about to alight at the next station, since she is standing near the door? 2. Why does a woman who is not pregnant/old/injured need a seat? just because she is a woman? 3. If the situation was such that the seat should and must have gone to the woman, why is the photographer clicking pictures? 4. Clicking a picture in deli metro is an offence. 5. The gaalis used against the two men ultimately aim at violence against their mothers and sisters. Is this not worse? Its shameful that we believe that all misogyny can be fought with misandry. The belief that a woman needs a seat more than a man reasserts that women are weaker and need care. where is equality, then? At a time when we should and we are fighting for equality in all walks of life, circulation of such hatred without contextualising the issue is unfortunate.
