Whats in a truffle? Honestly, I have never eaten a truffle, - TopicsExpress

Whats in a truffle? Honestly, I have never eaten a truffle, and I dont think I would like it...although I think it is similar to a family of arabian mushrooms that grow under the sand after rainy seasons (known as Faqa)...some grow quite large, and have a rather peculiar taste. I guess the reason this was raised to begin with was because they are discovered by the use of dogs and pigs. Dogs are preferred to pigs because pigs love to eat truffles. Imagine a root going at times for $350 to $500 a pound! These roots, are not going to be used without cleaning and purification...I highly doubt someone will be wrestling a truffle from the mouth of a pig or a dog and then proceed to eat it while it is coated and dripping with the saliva of that animal! Truffles are definitely subjected to rigorous treatment and cleaning. So the issue of a dog/pig being used shouldnt be of much concern. But if someone confuses a truffle with a magic truffle...that is surely messed up! I mean, it would be pretty obvious, as magic truffles are similar to magic mushrooms. So that should be avoided as it is an intoxicant.
