Whats on my bookshelf, you ask? Thats a long list; we have more bookshelves than rooms in our house. But Ill list some: Books about gardening, wild edibles, home repair, healing herbs, aqua phonics, cat care, clicker-training for dogs, juicing... Old encyclopedias, newer-ish encyclopedias, dictionaries, quotation guides, Latin textbooks, biology textbooks, physics, astronomy, and geology textbooks... John Holt, John Taylor Gatto, Ron Paul, Ayn Rand, Alfie Kohn, Thomas Sowell, Walter Williams, Grace Llewellyn, Robert Higgs, Tom Woods, Gordon Neufeld, Rose Wilder Lane... Stephen King, Orson Scott Card, Robert Heinlein, Isaac Asimov, Arthur C. Clarke, Dean Koontz, Jeanette Oak, Michael Crichton, Douglas Adams, Joyce Carol Oates, George Orwell, Laura Ingalls Wilder... Books about cosmology, mythology, quantum mechanics, ancient history, U.S. history, European history, native American history, philosophy... Outdated computer programming manuals, cookbooks from the early 20th century, reference books full of baseball statistics... Shakespeare, Chaucer, Milton, Locke, Thoreau, Coleridge, Dickens... Thats just off the top of my head and doesnt include stuff on my wifes Kindle. Yet, that list absolutely pales in comparison to the largest quantity of books we own. We have more childrens books than I could ever dream of reading them -- most of them acquired for little or no cost at thrift shops and yard sales. We are overflowing in books for their little eyes, ears, and minds to savor. This makes me happy. Watching a child hug a favorite book to his/her chest is a special thrill.
