Whats that cheesy/mushy song by Edwin McCann (later covered by Sara Evans).....oh yeah, I Could Not Ask For More. I think that would make a perfect theme for last nights West Coast Wednesdays (WCW) dance. So many smiling faces--both new and familiar; rising star dancers now instructors; killer music; two birthday cakes celebrating the phenomenal people in the dance community; and a hokey pokey to end the night. Yeah, last night was a bar setter. Among the highlights that made the vibe a blast: - Sammy and Heather -- not only rising star competitors but now rising star instructors. The duo (they have business cards, I think theyve gone official on us :) ) taught classes with a mixture of new and familiar faces and were unanimously praised for both their infectious attitudes and the lessons. Thanks to you both and the best of luck at the Open next week. Take it to em Chicago style! - Aprils music.Floor fillers permeated the air all evening long and kept people going back and forth between eating birthday cake and dancing it off almost immediately. As with Sammy and Heather, knock em dead with your DJing at the Open April! (I think we had Joe--Aprils husband--out as well. Time to take down the Missing posters. :) ) - Birthday celebrations (read: cake) for Carol and Mary Sue. Two cakes. Two lovely ladies. One huge bouquet of flowers. And lots of friends to celebrate with. Those are the moments that make life worth it sometimes. Well, that and maybe winning the lottery. - The hospitality/crew combination of Rodney and Brian. Not only did they both (along with Benny) help with tear down (and setup in Brians case), but they ensured that the new dancers hit the floor at least once and made them feel welcome--especially important in the dance world. - And a late night hokey pokey that was proudly done by slap happy--and sober--friends: https://facebook/video.php?v=10152366110640670&set=vb.569565669&type=2&theater You add to that a fantastic group of people that I wish I had time to thank personally every week, but cant. So instead, Ill list as many as I can remember here. Here we go. Thank you: Laura, Ken, Tim, Connie, Tony, Scott, Pamela, Carmen, Rosa, Jocelyn, Allison, Layton, Nancy, Tim, Ory, Laurie, Jeff. Gwen, Rose, Anna, Shelby, Victoria, Michelle, Michael M., Don, Jen, Richard, Barbara Ann Arceo, Ed, Diane, Raymond, Oana, Sidney, Beth, Glen, Wayne, Cynthia (You two--Wayne and Cyndi) knock em dead as well at the Open), Kat, Clayton, Sarahmaria, Brian, Shimpei, Michael T., Jason, Beverly, Jenna, Katie, and the remaining faces that I have not yet fully put names with (Im working on it :)). I cant tell you how much Im beaming from last night thanks to all of you. WCW is truly a family event in my eyes--one that I am honored to be a part of, and with, with all of you (that includes anyone who has come to WCW, be it once, on a regular basis, or somewhere in-between). Stay warm. Be safe. Have a great weekend, where I hope to see most of you at the Brown Siblings Mark Chicago Teaching Debut at The Mix on November 22nd. Final note: Next Wednesday, were at Ballroom City for Black Wednesday. This is a one-time deal. So, November 26th: WCW at Ballroom City, Jeff teaches; I DJ. Its gonna be a party! Ken
