When Dr Susan Lim overcharges her Brunei client the Singapore Medical Council (SMC) steps in. When SMC overcharges Susan Lim for legal fees (oh the irony) the High Court steps in. When Ministers overcharge citizens and quote astronomical salaries, who steps in? If the private sector is prone to such oligarchic practices (where power is concentrated in the few and where they can set inflated terms of remuneration) then why are ministerial salaries pegged to private sector pay? What is the wage difference between our top public and civil servants and our ministers? If the former can discharge their duties honorably without private sector compensation then why not our ministers? It doesnt look good that Alvin Yeo, the Senior Counsel for SMC, is himself a PAP MP.
