When I began serving a 37.5 year sentence in federal prison, I immediately recognized that the prison officials equated how hard a prisoner worked on an assigned prison jobs with the level of rehabilitation that has been acquired by the prisoner. If the prisoner was not considered as a hard worker, his or her rehabilitation level would be lower than average. Thus, adverse treatment could result. It appears this system was designed to make a prisoner more productive as a slave of the prison system. Might I add, the pay is as low as $0.23 an hour!
