When I drove on NH17 last month from Bombay to Goa, I waa thinking about how insensitive modern highway-building is in India today. Once upon a time, Indian highways were lined with beautiful trees, but in the new highways, trees are not only cut, but tree-planting has been jettisoned. Can we - as a HiVay driving community - do advocacy or action to bring the trees back to the HiVays? Can this be part of our own 2020 Vision statement? What resources can be mobilise - government, NHAI, corporate, NGOs, etc - to green the HiVays of India again?
