When I first got there, I asked him what can we do to help you back into your home again so you and the cats can live inside. He was not interested though. He then had no money, I gave him money. I wanted him to know I was here to help. I saw the cats sitting in their cages and staring at me and all I could think was, this has been their life for over a year!!! They dont get to run around or play, they have nothing to do in the cage but lay on newspaper where they also pee/poop. At night he puts them in tiny carriers and barely fits them in a room that the smell will knock you off your feet. No air flow, no air period and this is their life every day. I saw one that looked in worse shape, she was very dehydrated, drooling from mouth and she needed to be inside and seen by a vet. He agreed to let two go, she was one of them. Then once they were in the car, he changed his mind. Put her back into the cage and got rope to lock the cage. I asked and begged him to please, let us help her, she needs help. He ignored it. The other cat would not even get up when the door to the cage opened, even after trying to get him up, he wouldnt. Yes, the cats are fed every day, yes most are not thin. But!!! This situation only gave this man content knowing where his cats were at (locked up). That is sick. I too felt sorry for him, I too wanted to keep him with his cats but when you deal with someone who is sick, you can only help those who have no choice and no voice and are suffering. Anything to get them out of those cages, anything!!! Over a year, precious lives, being locked up and not living a life. I am sure he loves these cats. To me, love means that you cannot put your own self worth or your feelings in front of those you claim to love. Love means to make happy, to set free if those you love, are no longer living a quality life but just the one you chose for them. That to me, is not love. Sometimes as an animal advocate you have to make tough decisions and those decisions will not please everyone but I do this for one reason and that is for the wellbeing of the animals. Anyone who calls my organization for help, know that ahead of the time because our first goal is to work together but when that doesnt happen, we will not just walk away. This man got very hostile with me to the point he was hitting my car window trying to get at me. I never yelled or screamed at him. He is sick and needs help and I hope he gets it and lives the rest of his life better than the last few. I do wish him the best no matter what happened last night because that is just who I am.
