When I first saw the trailers for the movie Noah, I thought it - TopicsExpress

When I first saw the trailers for the movie Noah, I thought it looked like yet another vapid, meat-headed, big-budget special-effects extravaganza. But the debate Ive been hearing surrounding the movie has me intrigued, and now I want to go see it. The reaction from some on the right is downright silly, decrying the film as historically inaccurate, based on their accepted version of the flood disaster myth. However, the flood myth is common to many cultures, each with their own unique formulations. The Bible one is particularly nasty, with one lucky family and relatively few animals allowed to escape a world-wide genocide, including all the (by implication) depraved and wicked little babies and children. Or God is just a very clumsy smiter. Others on the right decry the environmental spin in the movie. But not all: I know many Christians, and many conservatives, who do not agree with the Fox brand of hyper-consumerist environmental poo-pooers. Instead, they see the Genesis story, of God placing humankind in the primordial garden as stewards, not grasping despoilers, of the earth, as a sacred trust. Seems to me this latter group picked and chose a better story to believe in.
