When I lived in MD I was fortunate to have a cousin (Tre Johnson) who played pro football (and was pretty damned good at it) for the Redskins so I had the good fortune to be able to go to games and watch my cousin play his ass off for the Redskins. But what really made me proud was the no nonsense, tell it like it is, pull no punches reputation he developed OFF the field as well as on. He was well respected and deservedly so. He went to the Redskins with both his bachelors and his masters in place. Dude wasnt just talented physically he was also SMART. And Im all for making sure the media recognizes how brilliant so many of our African American athletes are. Many of them ARE role models, good husbands and good fathers. Many Black athletes are QUITE ARTICULATE (buzz word). Most of them are not heralded or talked about. So Im going to do it right here and now with my cousin Tre. Back in the day O Linemen really didnt get the chance to shine publicly by doing interviews and analyzing sports. ESPN and other networks have changed that. So Tré is getting that chance now and Im happy for him and proud of him. (And thats about as nice as Ill ever get about a Redskin lol. Years ago I had to get over the fact that the Giants didnt draft him...maybe Im not over that. Lol.) This is a long video (and I chose this one because of its topic but you can see him on Good Day DC on Fox) but it only takes a second to see that Cuz can do more than hold his own. (Hes a coach/educator now). Cant wait to see you cuz with a serious gig on ESPN or The NFL Network!!! Lawd knows we have had some hilarious debates. LOL. Right Tank and Heather? I included many of you for various reasons...redskin fans, sports fans, black folk who feel me on this sports issue, family/friends of Tre...you get where Im going with this. LOL (Ps. When I was teaching at HU I designed that tattoo on his hand (and ARM)...its huge and in full color...pretty damned cool if I may say so myself lol.) Love you Tré Johnson. Hugs to the fam.
