When I release a book, it no longer belongs to me. Readers can write the most scathing reviews and they are completely entitled. But when readers email me or post ugly, hateful, negative comments on my Facebook wall, it is now brought to my home. NOW it is personal. I have feelings--probably more than you realize. Authors have to expose their hearts to connect to their characters. It leaves us more vulnerable to the ugliness of the world. Before you post that comment or send that email, think it through.
