When I say "black person," I am using the following definition: black person = a person who, at a SPECIFIC TIME, is being mistreated on the basis of color and/or factors associated with color by one or more persons classified as white. This definition avoids splitting hairs over what phenotype qualifies a person as black. And, it is focused on eliminating the system that does the classifying for the purposes of mistreatment. The logic is, that IF a global SYSTEM of white domination exists, then tribal identifications–which are done by the members who may or may not be white—are of significantly less importance in solving the problems that most need to be solved. From this definition, it follows that it is possible for some persons to be black at some times but not black at others depending upon how they FUNCTION. Persons who might fall into this category include but are not not limited to be persons whose appearance is similar to Mariah Carey or Enrique Iglesias. When I say "Black people," I mean the collective of people who ALWAYS or nearly always function as and/are classified as black as defined above. I suggest each victim of racism (black person) make her/his own determination about who, at any given time, is black.
