When I see a palagi (Samoan for white person) with Samoan tattoos, they usually give me a scared look. Its like theyre saying IM SORRY MAN I DIDNT MEAN TO DISRESPECT YOUR CULTURE with their eyes. Really, its all good. If youre struggling to explain to anyone why you have Samoan patterns, just tell em they were inspired by your cousin Viko ;) The fact that a tradition from a tiny island in the middle of the Pacific Ocean is penetrating the mainstream, makes me very proud of both the acceptance of Australian multiculturalism and the strength of Samoan culture.
