When I talk with my homeless friends, the number one need that is mentioned is not food, clothing, or shelter, but to be seen. People often look away when they see someone who is homeless, they roll up their windows, walk on the other side of the street, or completely ignore them if they ask a question. Not everyone has money to give or time in their day to go hand out food, but you do have the ability to smile, wave, or say hello. The greatest gift you can give is free, acknowledging the humanity and divinity of everyone you meet. Namaste.
