When I think of this day, I think of the time my maternal grandfather fought against the Japanese occupation of Korea that lasted until 1945. Just years later, my mothers family had to split up and escape from Northern Communist Korea to reach to Seoul where they would eventually find each other despite the dangers of said escape. Im grateful on so many levels of my grandfathers bravery during the occupation, to my grandmothers nerve to carry two young children in the dead of night to reach south of the border and find my grandfather and my aunt in the chaos of the war torn city. So Remembrance Day has a special meaning, remembering my grandparents and their sacrifice they made to get us to a safer place and eventually to Canada. Miss both of you and honor you.
