When I was a child many decades ago we made these in school using paraffin. Beeswax is a truly remarkable by product of bee-keeping. Many, many uses. I use it in blacksmithing melted with linseed oil to make a very weather proof coating for steel. Whenever I hand stitch leather the thread is heavily coated with beeswax. Drawer slide lubricant, screw setting aid, hand creams.....the list is endless.
