When I was a kid, the Sunday School teacher told us that we will - TopicsExpress

When I was a kid, the Sunday School teacher told us that we will be memorizing a Bible verse every week. I was like…”What?” I mean, I was just a kid then. But my teacher encouraged us to at least try. My teacher said that it was the most famous verse in the Bible - John 3:16. She wrote the verse on the board and we all read aloud. Over and over, we went through it. Some stumbled a bit. Some murmured a bit. But we eventually got it. Then, my teacher explained the meaning of the verse; that God loved me so much that Jesus came to save me from my sins. It was the very first Bible verse I memorized. But it didn’t stop there. During my first year in Sunday School, I was able to memorize 52 Bible verses. And also the following year. Years later, I grew up, graduated from college, married and had kids. Now that I’m older, though I cannot run like I used to, there is something that no one can take away from me. I still remember the Bible verses I memorized as a kid. And it has served me well in my life. One of my favorite verses is Psalm 119:11 (English Standard Version), which says, “I have stored up your word in my heart, that I might not sin against you.” God’s word has become my light and my guide. It has become my anchor and my rock. Putting it in memory has empowered me to face life with faith and hope. I may have graduated from Sunday School a long time ago. But the Word of God remains in my heart. So I encourage you to do the same.
