When I was a youngster I never thought of asking the elders in my - TopicsExpress

When I was a youngster I never thought of asking the elders in my family very much about the roots of our family. I always knew we were connected to the Mayflower, but beyond visiting the sites in Plymouth, which is not all that far from where we lived, not much else was mentioned about it. My only memory of my grandfather and great grandfather was of them living in Millis ma. I guess I just figured thats we they had always lived. Much to my surprise, when I started my journey into the roots, I discovered that Paul Cushman left Duxbury Ma and traveled to NH, eventually settling in the White Mountains. My 4th g grandfather Parker, down to my great grandfather, Horace were born there. I thought OMG how many times I had traveled up that way myself, never knowing that my ancestors had lived and died there. About 12 years ago, after extensive research, along with my mother, my daughter, and 2 of my sisters, I traveled to the White Mountains and walked on the soil that my ancestors had farmed all those years ago. I visited my gggg grandparents graves in Littleton NH and down the road a way there was another cemetery called The Cushman Cemetery There I found my ggg and gg grandparents graves along with several uncles and cousins. Next to my gg grandfathers grave was the symbol of him being a Civil War Vet, the crossed swords. Walking through the cemetery my family and I picked wildflowers, leaving them at each grave we discovered. Just thought I would share a little of my story. There are so many more things I have discovered over the years that I will share as I go along.
