When I was approached by my colleagues at SEEK Company to write a piece for our monthly SEEK: Note newsletter, I was both thrilled and terrified. I knew immediately what I wanted to write about - something that was heavy on my heart, that felt meaningful and powerful - but I didnt quite know how to do it. I have a tendency to be very challenging (read: not inviting) in my approach to these subjects. I still had a lot of anger I needed to work through; anger that would inhibit my message from truly reaching its intended audience if it was allowed to overshadow the vulnerability inherent to the situation. Being this kind of exposed is still new and quite scary for me. But, it was necessary. For my personal growth and to spark the dialogue I so hoped would result from my willingness to wrestle with the words and the emotions and the fears. Im extremely grateful to work for an organization that fosters this kind of growth in me. That allows me this kind of platform. That pushes me constantly to be and do better. Admittedly, this piece is not much. Just a drop in the very big bucket of our reality right now. But Im proud of it. I hope youll read it and share it. #blacklivesmatter #empathymatters
