When I was in the 8th grade I made a conscious decision based on - TopicsExpress

When I was in the 8th grade I made a conscious decision based on my grades the year before (which landed me I think 14th in a class of about 32) to compete with the brightest in my class ONLY for the fun and challenge of it. I did not consider myself (as) bright but (only) determined. The challenge part was that I wanted to see where goal setting and healthy competition would bring me (or my grades). To my surprise, I surpassed my own expectation and the expectations of others via this strategy. I believe in that year I was 3rd or 4th if I recall correctly. I didnt bother to compete that way in subsequent years as my next realization was that I need to set my own bar (standards) for what I regarded as success. I realized that the accomplishment of others are not outside my own capabilities once I was determined. Further, I from that experience, I saw that goal setting and accomplishing of such through determination would be my ticket to a successful life. I used thought and action, with determination as foundation, to accomplish whatever I wanted. I have never given up on my goals and I never stop dreaming (both literally and figuratively). Like God speaks the universe in to existence I use the spoken word to flagship what I want to accomplish by saying it out loud to friends, to family, to anyone with ears I can abuse with what they initially think is pomp/pride or boast. You see, your word is a powerful thing, when spoken and action is added. You can shape the future by thought (articulated and spoken), then action. I put my action where my word is. I am always also amazed when I move about my home, wherever that might be at that time across the 3 continents I have lived, and find bits of paper notes with goals I have written down. I often write them and soon forget where I lay them. But always each goal is checked off as accomplished. Always etch your words down on someones heart (ears) and / or on a piece of paper. They wont have to be your friend to follow up and hold you to your word, there will always be someone to remind you of what you said you would do. Or that note will show up eventually. As it was with Samuel, let not one of your words fall tot he ground! 1 Samuel 3:19. Disclaimer, works best with divine intervention. Success becomes therefore the journey because each time a new goal is set. You will also see that success is not a matter of (availability of) resources. I have been hungry, I have been broke, I have been alone. But I concede that I also found it true, as the bible says, to him that has more, much more will be given. For you to succeed based on this adage you would simply have to come to realization and understanding what you already have and leverage it for what you want. I have been given determination, I have been given thoughts (dreams), and thankfully I have been blessed with the ability to wake up each day and put dreams (thoughts) to action.
