When I watch this video I cant help but to think back to my African-American ancestors and how the first African-Americans freed from chattel slavery must have felt after being held in chains and brutalized for centuries. The psychological trauma must have been unbearable. When I watch the scene where the woman gives the dog a name instead of the number code used by its previous owner, it makes me think about the European surnames forced on my ancestors by their former slave masters and when freed they chose themselves to remove their European slave owners last names and take back their African names. Its deep when you think about the parallels. The only difference is the newly freed African-American slave received no psychological therapy after enduring such trauma like the survivors of the Jewish Holocaust did and these dogs did. When you look at it historically dogs were treated better than African-Americans were when they got their freedom.
