When IK-TUQ announced their EXIT PLAN last night, everyone including these guys knew that they were marching straight into trouble. It was an intentional act of escalation on their part. They wanted a fight and got one. Like many, I watched the action all night. Once the fight started, I was thinking that these Rookies would be lucky to survive for 2 hours against well armed and well led Punjab Police and FC, who had been called in such huge numbers. I was surprised to see the fighting rage all night with IK-TUQ NOT RUNNING, lasting the distance and continue fighting as I write. They are not yet done... After watching Women and Children getting in harms way, doggedly facing live firing of low caliber shots and braving huge volumes of tear gas canisters fired at them constantly all night, it became increasingly difficult NOT to see PML and always-villainous Punjab Police as the OPPRESSORS. Despite GEOs insistence to the contrary. The Interior Minster was idiotic enough to be present on ground, leading from front and as a result, giving a PML-FACE to the high handed actions. Police Ruffians even topped it with a beating to quite a few journalists on camera! All except GEO off-course. Won’t really matter now that IK-TUQ were up to NO GOOD to begin with. Putting innocent supporters in an unfair and an unnecessary fight. Resolve of these ill equipped party workers in battle and ensuing tragedy will dramatically strengthen the resolve of PTI workers Countrywide, widen their support base, make on-the-fence parties and organizations join hands with them and I expect them to be mobilized in large numbers. Unfortunately, I think that this will also make this conflict violent from now. Simply can’t remain peaceful anymore. Only smart thing done by the Govt so far is to avoid arresting IK-TUQ. The PML Govt should stick to that at least, and their leaders should refrain from beating their chests, pretending as if they are the real muscle men challenging IK-TUQ to an arm wrestling match. Silly stuff on Govts part and this will incite the sentiments beyond their comprehension. IK-TUQ supporters need hate figures as much as their tragedy, and PML leaders are simply too quick to oblige. This round won by IK-TUQ undoubted, anyone thinking otherwise is living on some other planet. Expect countrywide agitation to begin from today… by Farhan Butt
