When Is A Work NOT A Work? Titus 3:5 He saved us, NOT by works - TopicsExpress

When Is A Work NOT A Work? Titus 3:5 He saved us, NOT by works of righteousness which WE have done, but according to His mercy: Arminians claim to believe this passage, but then they adamantly insist faith is NOT solely the gift/work of God, but is their OWN response, brought about by either their own will alone, or a synergism between Gods grace and their own will (Arminians do not even agree among themselves on this). How they try to get around verses like this is by saying, Faith is not a work. Its a response. So they ARE saying that though faith is ultimately our OWN doing, this for them does not contradict verses like Titus 3:5 etc. This however, reveals only their serious ignorance of truth in this matter. The Greek word work in Titus 3:5 is ergon and means WORK, DOING, ACTION, ACCOMPLISHMENT. Q. Is belief an action? Something one does? A. Of course! So we are back to square one. Faith DOES qualify as a work according to this verse. If youre an Arminian who twists meanings to suit your own error, you must argue the obvious here. Namely: IF faith - which has both a noun and a verb aspect ( believing is a verb), is brought about by our OWN will, then, manifestly it IS in fact an action/doing/accomplishment of our own. In which case, it qualifies as a work according to Titus 3:5. But this verse expressly states we are NOT saved by ANY ergon that WE do. Q. Is faith an ergon? A. IF it is our own doing, then absolutely! So, while faith is necessary for salvation (Jn 3:16, 36 etc), it is NOT our own doing, for It is BY GRACE, we believe (Acts 18:27). We have obtained this precious faith (2 Pe 1:1), we did NOT choose it. There is a crucial difference :) Arminians SAY they accept Titus 3:5, but in either their sincere ignorance and or, arrogance they will most often resist, hate, deny, despise it, by insisting contrary to it, that faith IS their own doing, yet still claiming the absurdly self-contradictory mantra but it NOT a work! This is, serious doctrinal error. And at worst, it is outright heresy. Either way, it must be rebuked, corrected BY patient, persistent sound teaching of truth ( 2 Tim 2:24-26). May God give light!
