When Joyce Banda ascended to the presidency following the death of Dr Bingu wa Mutharika one thing was clear, the donors were relieved. They dictated the sale of the presidential jet and indeed it was sold. Now through the civil society and other quaters they are demanding for the expenditure which I have no problem with but we must realize as Africans that independence is not flying the flag but rather economic. The day Malawi chooses to walk away from donor aid her pride will be restored and the donors will never be in a position to dictate to the government. An economically independent Africa is possible.
