When Misty Brown moved into her Camdenton home just weeks ago, she went to city hall to check to see if she could have her two American bulldogs in her home. Brown said she was told the animals were fine. Now, the city has told her to remove the dogs from the city limits, or get a ticket for violating a city ordinance, which could carry a fine or even jail time. Although Brown’s dogs aren’t pit bulls by breed, their physical characteristics as defined by a city checklist make them pit bulls, the ordinance says. Brown equated the ordinance to canine racism, as many of the characteristics on the checklist can apply to many large breeds, yet pit bulls are singled out. Brown says shes spent upwards of $7,000 to move again to keep her dogs, both of which have never been involved in an incident and largely stay indoors.
