When Severus came into my life, I was living with my best friend and her cat, Hughie. Hughie was a bit of a grump, so we didnt have any plans to take in another cat. Then my best friends coworker found two kittens in a bag, left to die. She couldnt keep them, so we agreed to take one, and a week later I came home to find the sweetest, most precious little black kitten I had ever seen. Both being Harry Potter fans, we decided to name him Severus, feeling it was a good name for a black cat. Severus and I immediately bonded. Right from the start, he slept on my bed and spent most of his time on my lap. So, even though he was supposed to be our cat, when it was time for me to move to Boston for law school, my best friend said, Severus will be devastated if you leave without him. Hes yours, you have to take him. Several years later, still in the Boston area, I came home from work to find the roof of my apartment building completely consumed in flames. It was only a three-story building and I lived on the second floor, so I immediately feared the worst.
