When Steven asked me to marry him 13 years ago, I thought he was out of his mind & so did a lot of other people! We were already in quite the predicament with Kayla on the way. Our wedding was planned in a week. It was the only Saturday Steven had available during the season. The odds were stacked against us but after recommitting to Christ it had little impact on our desire to conquer the world together. We had Kayla 2 months later & Steven had ACL surgery the day after she was born. A year later we would find ourselves graveside saying goodbye to our 2nd daughter at 21 years old. We also lost a baby boy 2 years later. Steven would go on to have shoulder surgery & hamstring injuries. The NFL didnt seem like an option. In the meantime, he graduated with 2 degrees while I worked. God shocked the heck out of us when he started getting workout calls from NFL teams. He signed with the Redskins. After a year in the NFL he walked away from God. It was during that time I felt God drawing me closer to him. I would need it. Our marriage was a wreck. I didnt want to save it. I thank God for meeting a group of praying friends. We all met for a year & a half via conference call at 5 am to pray with & for each other. It changed my life & my heart. God would continue to work on me but in the meantime God instructed me to in Stevens words Put Him Out, LOL. It wasnt easy but my obedience to God was the only thing that helped God do what he needed to do in us both. This world would have you think that marriage is a fairy tale. We speak at marriage retreats/conferences & the one thing that truly ends marriages are hard hearts by one or both parties. God can restore & redeem anything, no matter how broken/damaged. Marriage is extremely difficult & created to fail in a world where pleasing yourself is top priority. Marriages succeed when two people are willing to commit & honor the promise they made at the altar. Then when all else fails, commit to submitting their will to Gods. Were not special or perfect, just loved by an awesome God who has never failed us & committed to the love we established 13 years ago! #9101
