When a Woman gets married in our wonderful Patriarchal society, - TopicsExpress

When a Woman gets married in our wonderful Patriarchal society, she has to flaunt herself to glory that she is married. • She becomes MRS from MISS • She gotta wear a Mangalsutra (It’s actually a Man-Sutra indicating that she is taken) • Kangan (wedding Bangles) • Toe Ring (I keep wondering what kinda aphrodisiac is this) • Maang Ka Shinddor (This is like a weapon I guess. I have seen in Bollywood movies, Women committing suicide by eating this after they hear the tragic news of their Parmeshwar’s demise) • Suhaag Ki Bindi (the reddishness of which will put a setting Sun to shy) After ensuring that every part of her body cries out loud that she is taken, we take her to fight the never ending war of gender inequality claiming that we very strongly support this noble cause. How can it be even remotely possible? When our culture itself has been corrugated with stones of disparity. How does a Man’s appearance changes after he gets married. What shows the world that he is married? It seems we are still holding the option to patriarchal polygamy. If we need change, then we need to start with new roots. It’s imperative to bring in new rituals which would reflect equality. I am hereby pledging that I will take my step to put an end to this. Whosoever I marry, I won’t let her identity to succumb to our ritual baloneys. If for some reason she chooses to put any of these married indicators on her, then I too will wear those as long as she is. All of us are Men because some chromosome decided to go other way. So let’s not be a Man of CHANCE anymore, let’s be a Man of CHANGE.
