When a surfer/waterman dies, its a Hawaiian tradition to do a paddle out to honor them and say goodbye. We did that today for my old friend Toby, and Im guessing it was one of the few paddleouts ever in Florida that was somewhat difficult because of a large groundswell. These photos are from December of 1985 when I stayed with Toby and his brother Gary at Sunset Point on the North Shore of Oahu. We got some big surf and Toby charged it as hard as anyone, and that says a lot on the North Shore. RIP bruddah Toby...
