When did the word FEMINIST become scary and negative? Compelling - TopicsExpress

When did the word FEMINIST become scary and negative? Compelling article that brings light to gender equality that all women and men deserve. Attending an all-womens Catholic college enlightened me on the term feminism in countless ways. I started college thinking it was an extremist word that labeled me so far to the left that I would alienate myself by using it. I now celebrate my feminism and am comfortable enough in my own skin to know Im proud to be a woman; I deserve equality; I love the two men in my life (my husband and son) and am happy they see me as an equal, as I see them; and I will continue to work hard to help other young women embrace the word FEMINIST as beautiful and empowering. Being FEMINIST doesnt mean bra burning, pro-choice and man-hating by definition...that definition further pushes women to the margins by stereotyping. FEMINISM is defined as the advocacy of womens rights on the grounds of political, social, and economic equality to men. Thank you Saint Marys College at Notre Dame for taking the scary out of this word!
